At Least It Was - Emiliana Torrini

"I thought I saw you on the train
I hid behind some men
I'd never seen you look so good
I'm glad you're doing well."
I guess this song is about letting go of someone who really did mean a bit to you and then realising that what you had was really something special and now feeling regret now that its gone. This phrase is more about seeing that someone after a while and seeing them with fresh eyes can see how good they do look. Although its also about not having the guts to go up and talk but more admire from afar and reminisce of times passed, good and bad. The melody is pretty consistent throughout the song but it gives a familiar feeling to the song, its also sad but i think the lyrics capture what I and im sure many people have felt before. Regretting letting go something so good is always a good topic to relate to.

Ansel and Emily DeSader - Blitzen Trapper

"Watching your weight,
so full of hate,
maybe its something you ate
yeah, do, do, do do, do"
I feel like this phrase really shows the unimportance of hate and spending so much effort on something so negative. The song is very laid back and quite minimal throughout the song, which adds to the carefree feel of the song. The lyrics have a slight humor to them, almost blaming the hate on an external influence. The do's of the song also create this almost country relaxed vibe. I always get the image of a farm in the afternoon when listening to this song because it makes me feel relaxed and homey (not like a gangster, but more comfortable)

Here Comes The Sun - The Beatles

"Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it's all right"
I really love this song, these lyrics make me feel warm inside and i get the image of some sort of light at the end of the tunnel. This song also reminds me of the really warm days in winter when you sit in the sun and read a book with a cup of tea. The melody of the song itself is almost soothing to listen to. The melody and lyrics go together so well, its a very comforting song to listen to when feeling down. "here comes the sun" and "its alright" are sung with multiple vocals which gives a very uplifting and heavenly hallelujah feel.

Solitude Is Bliss - Tame Impala

"theres a party in my head and no one is invited
and you will never come close to how i feel"
This phrase has to be my favorite of all time, the words sum up how ive felt at times, been on such a natural, not induced, intense mental high. A period of time when your mind is at full alert and everything you would normally take for granted is somehow enhanced in that period of time. It is like having a party in your mind and being the only one in attendance and understanding of what is going on. Then having to try and explain that to someone else who doesnt understand your passion, to have them give you a strange look and ask what you're on. Its something ive only been able to relate to with one person, and it is really such a shame that people are just surviving in their lives, not actually living to the full potential they can be if they explore, thats why they will never come close to how i feel.
The song is also a very psychedelic rock song, with an old school vibe which adds to the general feel of the song

Pieces Of The People We Love - The Rapture

"Don't try to tell me that my intentions are untrue.
Don't even bother tryin' to tell me cuz you live a lie"
I like these lyrics because i think everyone can relate to having someone tell you what you're saying isnt right or you mean it, when you're the one saying it.
These lyrics highlight for me the importance of not doubting yourself and what you say, when you're confident of what you've said.
I also like the next phrase because its almost like throwing it back in their face
The song itself is a very upbeat song, the rest of the lyrics to the song are also great, these ones just happened to stand out to me, because im able to relate to them

The Chills - Peter, Bjorn And John

"Your tongue is sharp, but I miss the taste of it"
These lyrics really stand out, the words are very direct.
To me, its a reflection of still missing someone even though they may have said some hurtful things or are just generally very witty and sarcastic. It shows how someone can still be fond of someone else despite their faults or past actions of hurting them.
This phrase starts the song, and it is very effective because they are the first words heard and after they are sung there is a couple of bars of the instruments before the next phrase comes in.
I think the piece is about being hurt by someone but still having feelings for them despite whats happened.

Symptoms Of A Stumbling - The Reign Of Kindo

"The weight of love is more than all the world"
These lyrics are repeated through the song 3 times.
The words paint a very vivid image, the sculpture of Farnese Atlas comes to my mind, although i can relate to the lyrics which is probably why they stand out to me.
The melody of the phrase adds to its meaning and the impact it has on me.
I think the song writer has effectively captured the meaning of how love can sometimes feel like it is consuming a person and almost feels like a weight that's unbearable, but in a way that is incredibly satisfying.
